With the investment of a new cool store at Fonterra Hawera, came the challenge of investing in new ideas to ensure ongoing cost reductions on a facility would serve them well into the 21st century.
Fonterra continually concerned with safety on their roofs, especially in regard to working at heights. As a food manufacturing facility, the cleaning of the roof areas is a requirement. Roof edge protection was needed for the construction of the facility, so it made sense to look at the extra cost of a permanent roof edge safety system over temporary scaffolding that would only be in place for the duration of the build.
MonkeyToe worked carefully with Fonterra and the building contractors to ensure that both the handrail system was compliant and looked good.
As the project was already in the construction phase when invited, MonkeyToe needed to move quickly with design to ensure that programs were achieved and that the necessary handrails were in place when needed. Under this pressure the MonkeyToe team thrived, the result was a resounding success both financially (only 25% above scaffolding costs) and the finished look was astounding!
The Handrails were accompanied with a full access walkway, stairs, ladders and pipe and cable tray mounting systems, which used the renowned MKT fixing system, especially designed for the non-penetrating D630 roofing system.
