This month at Monkeytoe October 2021

Check out what's been happening at Monkeytoe in October in our latest monthly news feature.

A note from Budd

Hi everyone,

Resources are the hot topic this month, especially given that designers, architects, and builders are looking to a busy and productive summer. Our goal is straightforward enough: make sure our clients have what they need – the time, solutions, and information – to make the right decisions to take advantage of another great season.

With that in mind, this month we’re pleased to launch the latest HVAC mounting catalogue, full of valuable data to help you choose the right option for your project. We’re also pushing the resources page on our website – where you can download ebooks and data sheets on our access solutions. But of course, we’re also here to help – so give us a call if you’d like to talk more.

Bertus Smit, one of our excellent project managers, shares why he’s been growing a mo’ and advocating for Movember for the last 14 years. We’re doing our part to break the stigma around male health – so follow the links and help us by supporting our fundraising efforts.

All this and more in this month’s update. Check out what we’ve been up to, check in with a mate this Movember, and take care.

Cheers,

Budd Prestidge

Te Pae Christchurch – protecting the people who make it possible

Christchurch’s world-class gathering place deserves world-class solutions. When Te Pae Christchurch needed roof access and service walkways, we knew that we could create solutions that would allow easy and safe solutions to keep the centre operating at its best.

Integral to this project (like all of our projects) was the need to keep the centre’s servicepeople safe. A huge facility like this has a lot of moving parts, many roof level changes that need to be safely navigated, and access to fan exhausts, skylights, roof mounted plants, and gutters and downpipes that demand careful attention.

We also had to protect the roof itself, so developed systems that would ensure all loads were transferred safely back to the purlins. If you check out the photos, you’ll see that our roof rails extend to reach two purlins at a time – transferring the load back through the building structure, rather than fixing down through the roof sheeting.

The huge convention centre roof received a suite of roof access, service walkways, edge protection handrails and gutter guards, with the walkways and handrails powdercoated to ensure they matched the rest of the building and maintained a clean, professional appearance. In addition, the trafficable FRP gutter guards can be removed to clean up any debris that happens to collect – something that’ll make things easy for ongoing inspections and maintenance.

Thanks to Te Pae Christchurch Convention Centre for allowing us to be a part of the process, and doing our part to protect your team with a seamless, stunning solution.

Auckland’s stunning Eden View Apartments

For luxury living in Mount Eden, you’d be hard pressed to beat Eden View Apartments.

Proudly overlooking Dominion Road, Eden View combines timeless design, space, and light in an impressive British architectural style. Our client, Ganellen Construction, needed a comprehensive solution that would preserve the elegance of the apartments while also providing functionality and performance.

After extensive consultation, we kitted Eden View out with an XBEAM solution: beautiful (if we do say so ourselves!) walkways with handrails, steps and stiles, platforms for the HVAC units, all in deep black to look as discreet as possible against the roof. And to ensure that noise pollution would be minimised – and to keep those HVAC units out of sight – we provided Hushmonkey acoustic screening.

As you can see, the final product adds to the elegance of the Eden View Apartments and will serve them well for years to come. Thanks to Ganellen Construction for allowing us to be a part of this project.

The latest HVAC mounting catalogue is now available

Tackling your mounting challenges takes planning and a bit of ingenuity. Just as well we’re here to help, with the latest HVAC mounting catalogue and price list now available for download from the Monkeytoe website.

We’ve made it as easy as possible for you to select your new mount. Head over to the resources page on our website and find out why our systems are trusted worldwide by architects, engineers, and building owners.

One Year of New Hushmonkey Acoustic Panels

We’re proud of our high-performance, high-value acoustic screening solution Hushmonkey. We developed the Hushmonkey system a few years ago to provide the best reduction in unwanted mechanical noise emissions to the surrounding environment. But we’re innovation-minded – so a year ago, we wanted to see how we could improve our own system.

There are a few acoustic screening solutions out there, but the most common – a timber frame with CFC (fibro cement) cladding and a rockwool inner – doesn’t handle the elements, nor are they always recyclable. Plus, each one is different, which means engaging an acoustic engineer with every project. Far from ideal.

One of the challenges we found in manufacturing was that our previous solution, which featured a Colourbond steel outer and a rockwool filling, was difficult to customise and cut to meet specific designs. We sought to improve the process, and reduce waste and clean-up.

So, a year ago we launched our new Hushmonkey with a novel aluminium extrusion set and an acoustic polyester panel insert. It’s easier to customise and hit nearly any Rw value as needed – plus maintains our standards of proprietary, environmentally conscious designs that have reliable and proven Weighted Sound Reduction Index (Rw) values. Plus, we’re able to powdercoat them to blend in – or stand out – which means they look great and perform well too.

Purlin or XBEAM-portal mounted, or freestanding, our new Hushmonkeys have been a big hit. Check out more info on the website – and if you’re thinking of a custom acoustic screening, then think Hushmonkey.

Grow a Mo: Movember with Monkeytoe’s Bertus Smit

Movember’s a very good cause. It’s a chance to open up to the important people in your life, check in on a mate, and help improve awareness of prostate cancer, testicular cancer, and men’s suicide.

These affect a lot of men – and a lot of families, relationships, and children. My own kids are four, five and nine, and I don’t want my boys to grow up with those kinds of worries in their lives – or without a dad. I reckon a lot of people share that.

Since 2003, Movember has funded more than 1,250 men’s health projects around the world, which challenge the status quo, shake up men’s health research, and transform the way health services reach and support men.

I wanted to do my part, so in about 2008, I started growing my mo’ for Movember. I haven’t missed a year. I can’t grow a proper beard, but do grow a great moustache, so it’s also a great excuse to show off what I can do on my upper lip!

We’re doing our bit at Monkeytoe. Some of the team, like me, are growing out their moustaches, and others are running and walking a symbolic 60km throughout November to raise money for men’s health. I have a bung knee, but I’m putting my hand up to match dollars to kilometres and will gladly limp along for the cause.

Follow the link to the Movember donation page we’ve set up and help us make a difference for men’s health – in prostate cancer, testicular cancer, mental health, and suicide prevention.
