We’ve got a great culture here at Monkeytoe, and with our values of; Visionary, Ownership, Innovation, Collaboration and Excellence (VOICE), we know that everyone has a voice and chance to be heard, this helps us strive for everything better.
Read on below to find out more about who we are and where we’ve come from.
A restless 24-year-old, sick of working for others, brought a 4×4 Hilux and decided to ‘go it alone’. Tim Prestidge started a 9-month stint installing Stainless Steel pipe and conduits, at a local cheese factory. Not his original vision, but gave him the ‘leg up’ he needed and a focus towards servicing the industrial sector in Taranaki. The core products became, structural steel, Stainless steel and transporting engineering.
Roll on 2000, we decided we needed to dip our toe in the buying & selling market, we needed products of our own, and Rotech was born. Starting off as forklift attachments, both imported and manufactured by us. We then moved on to adding Spill Equipment and DG storage to our product offering.
Monkeytoe is officially registered – the first raised walkway and platforms full solution provider (design, manufacture, install).
The name originated from our first fixing clip, the clip snapped on like a Monkey gripping a tree. It started off as a bit of a joke from the boys in the workshop, but it grew on us and stuck.
Monkeytoe came out with a fresh new brand identity and we launched our website.
We introduced our very own louvre screening to the market. The perfect addition to our plant platforms.
The Melbourne branch was opened in 2019 and distributes products Australia wide. A website was launched for Monkeytoe Australia.
Monkeytoe launched the first lightweight aluminium carbon fibre structural beam on the market. A key revolutionary configurable beam system, up to 65% lighter than steel equivalent.
Monkeytoe introduced Bridges to the market. Accessing the most difficult places simply and safely with large spanning bridges, designed and manufactured at our Head Office in Normanby.
On our way to make everything better.
We teamed up with Washer Transport to have a dedicated truck to transport Monkeytoe Products from our manufacturing base in Normanby to clients around the country.
The Walkway decks weigh 8kg per metre. The weight of Walkway Supports varies depending on the length used. (Allow 2.15kg per metre) A 1300mm Walkway support weights 2.80kg (e.g. which suits 1200mm purlin spacings). A 2500mm Walkway support weights 5.38kg (e.g. which suits 2400mm purlin spacings)
The Monkeytoe Aluminium walkway is a full aluminium fabricated system which results in a very strong walkway. Being fabricated with 2 specialised side beams means this walkway can span up to 3m with loading of 2.5kpa/m.
The Skywalk is a lighter walkway that spans a maximum of 2.4m between supports and then has the FRP Deck clipped to support beams underneath. The Skywalk is a lighter construction, but more modular.
Timber walkways cause two issues;
When the walkway is near a potential fall area of more than 300mm so generally when the roof has a pitch of more than 7°.
Monkey Toe top fixing roofing clips have specially fabricated jack stud which is threaded into the roofing clip then sits on the purlin below. The Jack stud is then tek screwed onto the purlin and the Monkey Toe clip screws down the outside of the stud until it is sealed onto the roofing profile. Using this unique Monkey Toe fixing, all loads are transferred to the building structure – not the roofing product.
Generally you will see a nail or tek screw line in a top fixed profile.
Generally when the platforms is closer to the edge of a roof than 2000mm and when raised more than 300mm above that of an adjacent platform or the Roof. (For further detail refer toAS/NZS 1657, 1992).
When closer than 2000mm from the roof edge or where the potential to fall more than 2000mm high is apparent.
The standard units are 0-80kg, HD are 80-150kg and the super HDs can support up to 400kg depending on the roof pitch and the actual physical dimensions [please ask the MKT consultants for a special design].
The following detail is required:
A Mesh Platform provides the service personnel a service area, further enhancing the protection of your roof. It means the servicemen are working on the same level as the mechanical units, making it easier to service. It is also safer as they are working on a level area rather than standing on the slope of the roof.
Generally, the platform induced lateral loads can be transferred to braced walls/portal frames/shear walls through roof diaphragm actions by the roof sheeting or other forms of diaphragms such as plywood. In the case where the diaphragm is absent or inadequate, the lateral load transfer can be achieved through axial tension/compression actions of the purlin in the along direction and through out of plane bending and shear in the across direction. In this case the client’s structural engineer is required to carry out this check. Monkey Toe can assist with this if required.
