Unique Monkeytoe access solutions are installed on this choice project, including  elevated Monkeytoe gantry walkways powder coated in a durable white, these are suspended over the main structure to enable safe access and servicing of the air handling units in the ceiling spaces in the new Recreation Centre and bulkhead access points for specialist personnel to access and connect to the abseiling rails which allows for cleaning and maintenance of windows and facades,

The University recognizes the key role that sport, and recreation play in the well-being and success of students and staff. We’re committed to maximizing the opportunities for students and staff to play sport, keep fit, and have fun while studying

The old Recreation Centre located on Symonds St was built in 1978 when the University had 10,000 students studying on campus. Today the University has approximately 46,000 students and more than 5,000 staff. The old facility was at capacity and was no longer able to maximize sport, recreation, and well-being opportunities for the University community.
